I was pitching articles about a 'round the world meal or series of meals with the First Woman to Fly Around the World - my grandmother - but editors, though interested in the concept, weren't biting. And it occurred to me - I have enough material for a book. A whole cookbook.
Which is kind of amazing, since Grandma wanted to write a cookbook about her world travels.
She's gone, but I'm still here and traveling. And I thought - why not?
So, this year and next as I journey to my 52+ country goal, I'm purposefully visiting countries that meant something to Grandma - and therefore are meaningful to me - and I'm curating the best of the best local traditional dishes as I go and updating the recipes with ingredients I can eat with my gluten and corn sensitivities.
And I'm combining these recipes with her stories - and mine - and all the wonders of this come together to make this travelogue, memoir, cookbook, and biography in one.
I'm finishing up my book proposal now, along with sample chapters, and I'll be submitting to agents this autumn.
